3 Powerful Ways Life Coaching Transforms Your Life
By Autumn Wingate
Have you ever experienced a time in your life where you felt stuck or not sure where to even get started on making a life change?
I know that feeling all too well. Anxiety and stress used to rule my life. Saying it was a frustrating time for me is a HUGE understatement.
What changed is when I started becoming more intentional about how I was living my life and learning to coach myself in the process. The support I desperately needed in the past is the now the same support I am offering to other women through life coaching.
If you have considered seeking the help of a life coach or are curious about the benefits of life coaching, this article is for you.
What does life coaching entail? A life coach is not a mentor offering advice. Nor are they therapists or counselors. A life coach can empower you to uncover the answers within yourself and ask questions that to help you see things from a different perspective. A life coach can also guide you as you seek to make life changes and help you to create an action plan.
The benefits of life coaching are numerous, but I want to highlight just a few of them. These are three ways a life coach can help transform your life:
Life-visioning Guidance
If you’re feeling stuck with where you are in your life, have you considered brainstorming what your ideal life could look like? A life coach can ask questions to help clarify that vision and what it would take to make that vision a reality.
Think of this as a conversation that helps you clearly see the big picture. How would you describe a typical day in your ideal life? A life coach can help you unfold that vision and guide you toward taking the first step in making positive life changes.
This process can be part of an initial conversation with a life coach. Talking about your life vision is an exciting part of the coaching process and helps you and the coach to get on the same page.
Goal-setting Expertise
When you are looking to make life changes and need direction, that is where life coaching can come into play. A life coach can help you set goals that align with your vision of what you want your life to look like.
Setting a goal can be simple. But setting the right goal, one that is more realistic — and sustainable — takes some more thought and effort.
Goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely, also known as SMART goals for short. Having these parameters in place allows you to form a clearer goal with a target date in mind, which helps you to stay on track.
A life coach can walk you through what you want the end goal to be and ask questions to guide you as you create a goal that sets you up for success. A goal that is too complex or overly ambitious might frustrate you and ultimately stall progress. But a goal aligned with your life vision can motivate you and provide a target to aim for.
Goal setting doesn’t have to perfect. A goal can be adjusted as needed. But your life coach can help you tweak your goals as you go through the coaching process.
Mindset-transformation Support
If you have been dealing with an issue in your life, it might require a shift in your mindset to create the momentum necessary to make a life change. A life coach can help you achieve a mindset transformation that might be necessary to catapult you toward your ideal life.
Limiting beliefs could potentially be holding you back from making progress. A limiting belief can be a false, negative narrative you tell yourself and accept as the truth but it’s actually a mental barrier that prevents you from moving forward.
An example of a limiting belief would be thoughts of not being “good enough” or the thought “I will always be a failure.” A life coach can help uncover that limiting belief by asking you questions or make an observation to reveal the truth behind that belief. Once you replace that belief with the truth, it can be very freeing and helps to remove that mental barrier that could be holding you back when it comes to pursuing your goals.
Sometimes a mindset shift could be just a change in perspective. A life coach could ask you questions to view something in a new way. That mindset shift could be the lightbulb moment you need to help propel you forward to creating sustainable life change.
